Credibility Needed at Houston’s Crime Lab, Mayor Says

Mayor Annise Parker has proposed a major change in the way the city’s crime lab is managed. In a report to City Council on Wednesday, Parker proposed establishing an independent board to supervise the lab, which has been riddled with shoddy procedures for years.

“We’ve got to bring credibility back,” she said.

She hopes to have a board in place by 2013. She said her proposal does not exclude the possibility of combining some procedures and personnel with the Harris County Crime Lab.
