W.Va. to lobby in Houston for plant

Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin will fly to Houston this week as part of West Virginia’s quest for a chemical plant that promises to deliver thousands of jobs, House Finance Chairman Harry Keith White told The Associated Press on Monday.

The Mingo County Democrat said his fellow delegates sought to aid that trip with Monday’s ahead-of-schedule, nearly unanimous passage of Tomblin’s tax break proposal meant to lure one or more “cracker” facilities. The House advanced the bill 93-1 to the Senate.

Jim Crane pulls a fast one on Houston

Monday, Jim Crane made some significant announcements that will change fan experience at Minute Maid Park. He also described some other potential changes that had vastly different reactions from the fan base. While Crane strongly hinted at a uniform change come 2013, he also hinted at a possible name change. While the former was received with cheers and applause from many fans, the latter evoked quite the opposite reaction. Many fans have been up in arms about the possibility that the Astros name could be no more in 2013. So while the Astros will be changing leagues, could they change much more then just that.

Martin scores 32 in Houston’s 90-88 OT win

The Houston Rockets seemed to be rolling in the first half against New Orleans, shooting well and building a double-digit lead. Luis Scola knew better.

“We weren’t executing the right way,” the Rockets forward said. “They came back, and that’s what happens when you don’t play good.”

Houston survived one of the worst fourth quarters in team history to hold off the Hornets 90-88 in overtime on Thursday night. Kevin Martin scored 27 of his 32 points in the first half, Samuel Dalembert grabbed a season-high 17 rebounds and the Rockets won their fifth straight game.

Single-family home sales were up 4 percent for the year while the median price inched up 0.7 percent to $155,000, the Houston Association of Realtors said today in a monthly report.

Raven LB Lewis a fan of Houston RB Foster

Arian Foster was in his first season as a starter for Houston back in 2010 when the Ravens came to town. When Baltimore linebacker Ray Lewis grabbed the running back after a play, he didn’t know what to expect. Turns out Lewis had become a fan and told Foster: “I love the way you play this game. You have a very, very bright future.”

Since then, the pair have become friends, though that bond will be put aside Sunday when the Ravens and Texans meet in an AFC divisional playoff game.
